Carolina Florian – Senior Designer
BSc MSc MSc Light & Lighting CEng MSLL MCIBSE MIET

Carolina’s career began in engineering and building design. She initially worked for over 7 years as an electrical lighting engineer within a renowned international engineering consultancy. As a result of her design experience on several key infrastructure projects Carolina developed a keen interest in the role of lighting in urban spaces and buildings. Her appreciation of the versatility of light as science, design tool and art form has fuelled Carolina’s desire to pursue a career in architectural lighting design.

Carolina joined GIA Equation in 2015. She has over 10 years of experience across the residential, education, healthcare, sports, commercial buildings and transportation sectors. Her involvement covers many areas of lighting design including daylight design, urban masterplanning, exterior and interior lighting design, obtrusive light analysis, light pollution surveys, product design, installation reviews and compliance with relevant regulations in the UK, Europe and USA. Capitalising on her diverse background and experience, Carolina is mentoring other junior colleagues in the practice. She periodically speaks as a guest lecturer at universities in Colombia and the UK. Carolina is also active within the SLL. She is currently part of the task group responsible for the new SLL LG15 “Transport buildings” which is scheduled for publication in late 2017.
